Windows XP Mode could not restored because of either host processor type mismatch or ...

Solution :

  • Browse to this folder - > C:\Users\ (Username)\ AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines

  • Look for a filename with this extension -> .VSV

  • Rename the file.

  • Restart Virtual Machine.

If you don't find this .vsv file it is probably because to installed your xp mode some where other then windows directory e.g. in drive D. Search for this file in installation directory of XP Mode and rename it (change it's extension). Secondly change hibernation function to avoid this in future. Open Virtual PC, click on Tools, then Settings. Under the Close tab, change the option from Hibernate to Shutdown.
