Hard disk

How reliable is your computer hard disk ? Can you rely on on those smart features that the manufacturers claim will predicting potential problem & give some sort of warning ? How long will your hard disk last you ?

That is why, it's very important to use a program in Windows called SCANDISK, at least once a month. If the SCANDISK shows you an error during a routine check, your hard disk is more likely to fail within 60 days (according to PC World Magazine, June 07). It's time to replace that bad hard disk.

Dear Dizzy,

Harddisks are pretty unreliable as i have found the HARD way. My laptop's HDD crashed and I had to get a new one, fortunately it worked just a bit to let me copy years of email but that was just about it. I have also had it with MS Window crashes and I am not buying a new laptop with VISTA. So I have ordered a new Macbook. Let see how the grass grows on the other side.

Hi Odzer, agreed. Laptop Hard disk lifespan is pretty much shorter compared to Desktop. As u r on the move / on mobile, certain degree of damaged already been done. The movements / vibration are causing damaged to the hard disk platters. It's best to backup ur file to external drive / source.
