Had problem installing Windows XP Professional on Compag Presario V3000. Windows XP couldn't detect the SATA hard disk.
Finally, from previous experience installing Acer notebook, downloaded the SATA driver from HP site. Boot up Presario V3000 & hit F6 key to add the SATA driver from USB floopy disk. The installation stuck half way, asking for SATA driver again. Darnit!
Finally, use NLite program to put the SATA driver into the Windows XP Professional cd. Boot up the Presario V3000 again. Bravo !!! It works prefectly fine!!!

Yup! Sharing some info here
i've done the same but the hard drive still cannot be detected.any suggestion?
2 more things you can try. Boot up to the BIOS, then Disable Native SATA setting.
You might also wana try using other brand of usb floopy disk drive, eg. IBM. Some other brand of usb floopy disk drive drivers are not listed in the XP HCL list.
Good luck
