Very often when we drive, we assume it will be a smooth sailing journey, where ever we are heading. Bear in mind, accident happens anytime, anywhere & it will caught us off guard. As such, we ought to be very careful the moment we start the engine. Make sure there's no cat / dog underneath our car. Be extra careful when negotiating a corner. Ensure there's no joker aka irresponsible driver who speeds like nobody's business coming out from no where whenever you are trying to get to the other side. The vehicles which is next to you might loose control & suddenly swerve to your lane, so watch out for these kind of unexpected things.
I had a scary experience once. I was driving behind this lorry which was carrying huge loads of building construction materials. I was about to reach a road bend & I decided to overtake the lorry. In seconds after overtaking the lorry, I heard a loud noise from behind. Looking at the rear mirror, I saw the content which was carried by the lorry was all over the road. The cars behind me was not so lucky!
We need to be alert all time while on the road. If sleepy, do something which could make you stay awake, like chewing something, eating extra sour sweets, singing, etc.
Get to know who is your insurer & the emergency number to call in case *touch wood* accident.
These information will comes in very handy as I'm speaking based on experience.
