It's a norm to “clink” glasses when making a toast. Why?According to Nelson and Witt, authors of “Sacred Threshold: Rituals and Readings for a Wedding With Spirit”, it's an ancient tradition used to ward off evil spirits. Alcohol is referred as spirits. The ancients believed that evil spirits might enter the body with the drink and make mischief. It is hoped that by making some noise first, they would frighten the demons away.
