As there's a compatibility issue running a VB6 designed application in Windows 7, I resort to install it in Windows 7 Virtual PC XP Mode. Everything goes smooth, up to stage when accessing certain menu, hit with Runtime Error '429' : ActiveX Component Can't Create Object

Found quite a number recommended solution from searches, from copying certain dll files, regsvr32 dll & ocx files, install latest vb6 runtime fix but to no avail. Only got it resolved after installing Microsoft Office 2003 Standard onto the XP Mode.

CutePDF is a great free software to convert any files into PDF.

Encountered a problem lately using CutePDF to convert Excel with multiple worksheets into PDF.

Instead of creating a single PDF, CutePDF saved it into few PDF files.

These steps should solved the problem :

At Excel file, File - Page Setup.

Look at Print Quality. If 600 dpi is stated, ensure the rest of the worksheets are also at 600 dpi (value needs to be consistent through the worksheets).

MS Words Has Stopped Working when Outlook close

Using Windows 7 & whenever exit Outlook, there's a message prompt,

"MS Words has stopped working. Windows is checking for solution" or "The file normal already exist. Do you want to replace the existing file".

This could be due to two version of MS Office installed, or the either one version was uninstall, by left traces in the registry.

Found a solution after hours of googling. Uninstall MS Office using FixIt tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Delete files in Template folder located at User\userprofile\appdata\roaming\microsoft

Remove all temp file found by issuing this command %temp%

You are strongly advised to ignore them / not to engage on their services. These people claimed they are specialist, but infact fact their specialiaty is questionable. Had this strange problem lately, where after login to Window 7 Ultimate, Welcome screen appear, but stays there longer time than usual (1 - 2 minutes) , then black screen shows up for another 1 - 2 minutes before Desktop appear.

Resolved it by disconnecting any unused network drive. Windows is trying to restore the network drives, which explained the delay.

To reset the password :

Change the section, master_pwd= value to = 70 & save it.

Finally figured it out why Cisco VPN connection using Maxis Wireless Broadband couldn't work. I'm able to get authenticated successfully on Cisco VPN, but there's no data traffic occurred.

Zyxel certainly has a strange way of putting the ICMP protocol onto a confusing menu (at Maintenance - Tools instead of Advanced - Firewall. Been cracking head configuring Zyxel to be able to be ping from WAN.

Access Zyxel configuration via web based.
Navigate to Maintenance - Tools.
Click ICMP & choose Respond to Ping on LAN & WAN.

Having headache trying to create Microsoft Outlook 2003 email Signature in Windows 7, using Advanced Edit function. Prompted with error "could not find an editor for H (.) file".

Tried the method in Control Panel - Internet Options - Programs - HTML Editing & setting the default program to Microsoft Office Words, but still doesn't work.

This method should work. Click on Internet Programs - Set Programs - Associate a file type... Scroll down & look for .htm & change the default program to Microsoft Office Words.

Sometimes, things can look so simply, but once we got our hand into doing it ourself, then only do we realised otherwise.

Settings up a small computer network requires lots of time, especially laying network cables. Cable must be properly label, tidy, hook up to switch & test. I spent 4 hrs completing the job.

The file is in use by another program or user. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.

Well, thanks UNLocker for saving the day & making my work much easier. There's no need to reboot the computer into safe mode to delete the infected file. It's just awsome!

Installing Cisco VPN ver 5.0.04.0300 on my HP Mini 2140 running on Windows 7 proof to be tough. Taking almost half of my day to resolved this.

First problem, VPN just refused to install due to HP Mini 2140 screen resolution.
This can be resolved by using InstED It program ( http://www.instedit.com/download.html ) to modify the Cisco VPN installer. Install InstED, find "screen resolution". Edit the 800 x 600 resolution to 1024 x 576. Save & run the installer.

Second was the Internal Error 2738 message.
These works for me (thanks to the power of Net).

Run Command Prompt using Administrator mode.

Paste this command:

reg delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{B54F3741-5B07-11CF-A4B0-00AA004A55E8} /f

Once the command succcesfully executed, paste this :

reg delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{F414C260-6AC0-11CF-B6D1-00AA00BBBB58} /f

Once the command sucessfully executed, paste this :

regsvr32 vbscript.dll

Setup was unable to create a new system partition

First time with Windows 7 installation. Hit an error "Setup was unable to create a new system partition ...".

Solution, unplug any USB drive connected.

Reboot into Windows 7 setup mode again. Click the DRIVE option & re-delete the hard drive partition, create a new partition & re-format it.

And that should do the job!

Hmm... have this user complaining can't send his Streamyx mail via Microsoft Outlook for the past few days. He managed to sign on to webmail.tm.net.my using the same password.

The problem was the Logon Information - User name.

Previously, with this setting abc@streamyx works! But it doesn't now. Gotta have a .com right after abc@streamyx -> abc@streamyx.com

Incoming mail server remains at pop.streamyx.com Port 110

Outgoing mail server smtp.streamyx.com Port 25 (hmm.. & I thought TM has blocked port 25 due to spam mitigation ? No ?)

Drama: it’s great for the movies or television, but not so great in the workplace. Work is stressful enough without the added burden of backstabbing, gossip and strategically placed comments. So how can you keep your focus in the right place – on your job – and avoid any unnecessary workplace dramatics? Here are five suggestions.

1. Choose sides carefully (or better yet, not at all)
At some point in your career, or at many points, you’re going to get caught in a dispute between two or more factions. While it may seem politically advantageous to align yourself with management, or more loyal to align yourself with your peers, either route can backfire. The best strategy is to try and stay as impartial and neutral as possible – just focus on your own responsibilities, and deal with people on both sides of the conflict equally and fairly.

2. Be direct, but not confrontational
If you have a disagreement or problem with someone at work, you generally have three options. You could: a) Ignore the problem and hope it goes away; b) Complain bitterly about this person behind their back; or c) Talk to the person directly to try and resolve the issue. Guess which is the most likely to achieve the outcome you want?

Talking directly with someone is always the best way to get your concerns out into the open and hopefully work out a compromise. Try to bring up your concerns in a neutral way; address the issue, not the person. To avoid sounding accusatory or confrontational, use “I” or “we” statements to bring about a collaborative solution. For example, instead of: “You never get your work done on time,” try: “I feel like that last project didn’t go as well as it could have. What can we do differently next time to make sure we meet our deadlines?”

3. Be careful what information you share
It can be difficult to resist the temptation to repeat things that have been told to you in confidence, or repeat a juicy rumour you heard at lunch. But if you’re serious about getting ahead, resist you must. Revealing sensitive or confidential information (such as impending company layoffs or account losses) can only do harm to your reputation, or even your job. Some companies have very strict policies on how and when information can be shared – policies that, if broken, could possibly even result in termination of your contract. So don’t take the risk!

4. Be friendly and cooperative
While it’s important to focus on tasks and be professional, it’s a smart idea to stay on good terms with colleagues. That means always being polite, friendly and willing to help someone out. This doesn’t mean you have to say “yes” to everything, or offer any grand gestures; simple things like offering to help change the toner in the photocopier, or always greeting your colleagues at the beginning and end of the work day, can mean a lot. If you build a reputation as a pleasant person who doesn’t just care about himself, you’ll be less likely to find yourself the target of malicious gossip, and more likely to move up the career ladder.

5. Stay positive
It’s natural to sometimes get frustrated and angry with your work. But no one wants to work with someone who is constantly complaining. A perpetually negative attitude (“I can’t stand working here”; “The boss is such a jerk”; “I’ll never get promoted”) just feeds on itself, making you and everyone around you miserable. So try to focus on what you like about your job: your great colleagues, the flexible hours or the opportunities to learn new skills. And if you do have a complaint, try to offer a solution so that you’re turning something negative into a positive.

My new 4 units of Falken ZIEX ZE-912, together with labour, wheel balancing, alignment cost me RM700 cash. Boss also helped to check my brake. The honest boss say the brake can still go for further 20,000km. He also look at my battery. The century maintenanceless battery according to him better to be replaced if the age is about 1.5 years. Since mine is less than a year, it's still ok, even though been having slight problem of igniting the car (like engine died off trying to start the car). According to the boss, this is because, last time battery comes with 12 plates which has better power. New battery comes with lesser plates (6 - 8 plates), which explain the problem that I'm facing as day goes.

Back to darlings hometown at Sg Petani. Going back KL on Tuesday! Driving journey was smooth all the way up. Had breakfast at Bidor. Reached Penang around 11am. Visit darling's bro & gf at Tambun. Bought them some Tupperware gifts for their wedding in December.

Drove to Midland to fetch darling's mom from eldest sis home before going back SP. Traffic at SP is a bit busy. No wonder traffic at KL is smooth. Guess the NS Highway will be busy on Sunday as people will resume work on Monday.

Bringing work back home, but need to access documents from server. But it's just too slow accessing server from home. Streamyx is like crawling speed.

Found a solution. Copy the documents to laptop, when back to office, sync it back, so that the server has the updated copies. Sync process is fairly easy. Thanks to SyncToy 2.

Recycle Bin Corrupted !!!

Files deleted not found / not appear in Recycle Bin & it was working fine before ? OK, possible reason is that, the Recycle Bin has gone corrupted.

Try this to correct the problem :-

Launch Windows Explorer - Tools - Folder Options - View. Uncheck - Hide Protected Operating System File. Under Hidden Files & Folders, choose Show Hidden Files and Folders.

Click OK.

Go to C:\ folder. Look for RECYCLER folder. Right mouse on it & choose Properties. Uncheck the Read-only option. Delete RECYCLER folder.

Once RECYCLER folder deleted, try delete a file. The RECYCLER folder will be auto created.

Now your Recycle Bin should be working perfectly fine.
